People & planet
Our people
At BBI we embrace values of equality, empowerment and opportunities for all, and put these values into action through several initiatives:
A nearby crèche on the neighbouring Bavaria farm offers BBI staff a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for their children.
We are part of the Hlokomela Clinic Employers Health Club whereby a monthly subscription fee entitles staff to access reduced health care rates and other Hlokomela benefits. Our HR Officer is a Clinic Ambassador for this initiative.
The company permanently employs a community health care worker who provides general wellness assistance.
Our annual wellness days embrace a variety of themes, celebrating exceptional performance, promoting healthcare services, fostering well-being, and honouring diverse cultures. Most recently, our Employee Recognition & Appreciation Awards Event celebrated employees whose loyalty, dedication, and hard work have made a significant positive impact on our company, reflecting our core values, culture, and commitment to excellence.
Developing the next generation
We not only wish to employ the very best, but also believe a stronger agricultural industry benefits us all. A dedicated ANB Talent Management Council manages the development of smart strategies, policies and practices that align with our values and goals. The team works alongside our general managers and HR teams, creates relationships with tertiary and agri learning institutions, oversees the internship, learnership and bursary programmes, and more.
Some stats for BBI: Over the past two years a total of 25 youth participated in learnerships in Generic Management (NQF3), Business Administration (NQF3), Contact Centre (NQF3), Electronics (NQF4) and Wholesale and Retail Operations (NQF4).
Corporate Social Investment (CSI)
Our business is proudly rooted in a rural community, where we strive to have a meaningful impact through various initiatives. Our dedicated CSI Champion oversees projects that address genuine community needs. These efforts include food donations and other assistance to local aftercare facilities supporting at-risk children, annual Mandela Day activities, and a 5-year commitment to a local creche for the supply of fortified instant porridge to the children every month.
Sustainability at BBI
We recognise that our operations have an impact on the environment and therefore continuously work towards identifying and implementing cleaner and greener practices.
- Our solar plant generates 58% of the required consumption needed by the facility and can produce up to 4.79MWh. This system daily reduces CO2 emissions by 1.88 tonnes.
- The site is equipped with two 550kVa generators which allows the facility to produce at 100% capacity in the event of a power failure. However, as the solar generated power merges with the generators in the event of power failure, the generators can function at a lower capacity, reducing fuel usage and CO2 emissions.
- The site employs chemical-eliminating bacteria in all wastewater dams for safe water reuse.
